Not The Fred Whitton

I did the Fred Whitton route with a bunch of mates a couple of weekends ago and whilst I was grinding my 102kg up one of those brutal climbs I came up with the idea of finding Britain's flattest 112mile route, calling it "Not The Fred Whitton" and running it as a sportive.
So:
Would there be demand for such a ride and where in Norfolk (or elsewhere) would this be staged??
All hypothetical questions for a laugh more than anything else!

You're a bit late to the party! Here it is, the worlds most boring ride.

Trouble is many of my very toughest riding experiences are in pan-flat areas like the Fens.
There's always wind, your behind takes a battering as you don't get out of the saddle very much, everything smells of cabbages.
Give me hills any day of the week!
(I realise that at 59Kg, I am not built for powering along on the flat into headwinds, so my viewpoint may not be universally shared!)0 -

Agree with this, (at a mid point 77kg) that the the flat and wind is harder, probably mentally more than anything, due to the boring nature of the scenerey
I would rather climb than sit with my nose in the wind all day."If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

FOitF isn't a bad ride, makes a bit of a change, must admit the 112 miler is long enough though.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Yes, don't underestimate how bad it can be riding in the Fens. Hills are usually followed by descents so you get a rest freewheeling. 10-15 miles into a vile headwind offers no such respite. Plus, if you see a wind speed in the weather forecast, add 50% - you seem to get a lot more of it up there. Nothing to stop it, I suppose.
Some of the roads have dead straight, flat sections miles in length. Sometimes you feel you aren't actually moving at all.0 -

Despite it all, I do actually find the Fens quite amazing with that big sky effect you get with a horizon that just goes on and on. I sort of imagine it is similar to riding across the prairies of the US etc. - just colder and more cabbagy.
But, yes, it's a bit tragic when you get excited when you reach a corner as you haven't seen one for a while!
Slightly wobbly photo going across the Fens on LEL 2013 (with a tailwind thankfully!)
