Question about Oakley Radar EV

I'm looking for a pair of Black Oakley Radar EV's with Prizm Road lenses, but the only Black versions I can find come with the Trail lens. There are red/white and black/uranium frames with Road lenses, but no black.

Are there any Oakley experts out there that have an insight into how or when Oakley release their sunglasses? Do they release new colours later down the line or will that be it for a while?
I have emailed wiggle and Oakley customer services but have had no reply.

Buy a frame, buy a lens. Any combo you like.

I haven't been able to find the black frame for sale on it's own. The lens is available for £63.99 though.

Thanks, I had a look but no Radar EV frame. Plus I can barely justify spending the price of a standard pair, I'm guessing custom ones are more.

Are there any Radarlocks in the colour you want?
Do not know much about the EV's but they seem like the old non 'lock' Radar's which are nowhere near as good as Radarlocks.

I would try to get some Radarlocks with Prizm lens (which are really good) in a sale, in the nicest colour you can.
The lens type and the frame type are the main things once you have them.

I like the slightly larger lens on the new EV and I think the improved air vents might be useful. I have some Uvex sunglasses that are advertised as being anti-fogging but I run quite warm and they still manage to fog up.

I did get a reply from Oakley today though for anyone interested:

    "Thank you for your email.

At the moment it’s not something that we do I’m afraid, they are only available with the white frame.

However the Radar EV will be available to be custom shortly, that will give you the choice to choose your own frame, lens and the other parts.

This pair will be available on the custom range in the coming month or so."

I am trying to justify upgrading from Fast Jacket XL to Radar EV, no success yet, thankfully for my credit card.

I have had radars and jawbones in the past and despite the pros not really taking to them, fast jackets are really good and a lot of amateurs wear them.

Still want fluro Radar EV though !

Yea, the fluro ones are the ones I'd probably pick if it was the only way to get the Road lens... either that or find someone who wants the fluro frames with the trail lens and do a swap for their black frame.

Can anyone recommend a place I can try to find a MTB'er looking for different frames so that I can sort out a swap?

I tried posting in the MTB buying advice forum and my post was helpfully deleted in about 2 minutes with no explanation or advice. I'm guessing it should be in the classifieds, but seeing as I'm looking for someone who hasn't made a purchase yet, and considering the mtb wanted forum is pretty dead, I'll try and find somewhere else.

I've just bought a pair of White/Red Radar EV glasses from Chainreaction, with the BC discount and TAKE10 code they came to £97.99, which seemed ok.

Haven't tried them yet so can't comment on anything else.

The Prizm road lens is very good, I have then with a pair of Jawbreakers. They are a very good all round lens, but I would use something a bit darker in the summer. So how about getting a pair in black with a black iridium lens now and then get a Prizm road lens when they become available.

I am looking at the same Oakley Radar Path sunglasses with Prizm tech. lenses (Red).

Another cool feature is that you can use an clip-on RX adapter with these Oakley's.

Do the Radarlocks differ from the old Radars in any significant way apart from the ease of lens changing? It's a genuine question, I have the old Radars and never change the lenses so have always assumed there would be no benefit.

AFAIK The EVs differ from both the old Radars and the Radarlocks in having a slightly expanded lens area above the eye-line so that the frame isn't obscuring in a head-down situation. Again, not a problem I personally have (I suppose it depends on where your ears and nose are relative to your eyes), so didn't see the point.

Doubtless Oakley will bring out a Radarlock EV frame once enough people have bought the standard EV version...

No, there isn't a great deal of difference between the Radar and the Radarlock. I found the Radarlock sat a little low so that the top of the frame was a bit too much in my peripheral vision. I use the thinker nose pieces to get around this. I also really like the Radarlock Xl for this reason. A lot bigger lens above the nosepiece. Just a shame Oakley seem to the phasing this model out, only one model available this year.

Thanks for the heads up. The custom black EV's with Prizm Road are £160 there. It looks better value to buy the matte black ones with black iridium lenses for ~£100 online and then the Road Prizm lenses from cyclestore for £64. I don't suppose you know of any other sites that sell the road prizm lenses? I've looked around online but cyclestore seems to be the only place. Couldn't help but chuckle when I saw your post on the oakley forum by the way

Try Dr Chop Shop, I have not used him personally but friends have any the quality of the finish is amazing.

Basically he custom paints any Oakley frames you want in any colours you want to match kit etc.

Not sure if he will be cheaper but as he is in the states you might be lucky.

    http://www.drchopshop.com/

I have just ordered a pair of Oakley Jawbreakers in Sapphire, they come with a white bottom to hold the lenses in, my club kit is blue and yellow so I am going to order a custom yellow bottom jaw for them to match my kit, plus nobody else will have them 8)

Just to add, I am not affiliated with this guy in any way, just think if you want something different, then it might be an option!

Alternatively, any of these any good?

Sorry, 'fraid I don't. Cyclestore are pretty good though. Never had a problem with them and their prices tend to be pretty good.
