looking to get a new front tyre and was interested in getting the M.M. in the snakeskin trailstar compound. Heard good things about them but also heard bad things about them such as the side lugs tearing off easily. Was this just due to faulty batches or just in general being rubbish and should I consider something else instead?

Currently have Ardent 2.25 on the front which came as stock on my bike but fancy something with a bit more grip. Will still be running another Ardent on rear.

My riding is mainly red routes at trail centres - Whinlatter and most of the 7stanes that are local

cheers in advance

I have them in trailstar compound on my DH bike. They do the job but side lugs do dissappear and Wear is shocking. I wouldn't buy them again.
    Sizing is enormous as well.

High Roller II or Minion works well with an Ardent.

Magic Mary probably slightly OTT I have a VertstarSuperGravitySnakeskinFoldingTubelessEasy on the front of the big bike and although in terms of grip/speed/weight it is quite easily the best tyre I've ever used the wear rate is astronomical noticeably frazzled after a few 10s of miles with lots of debris/small animals stuck in the elaborate treads

MM is overkill for the stanes unless you are going off piste or its particularly wet.

Was only looking at the M.M as saw that it had good grip and the weight in the compound i mentioned in previous post comes in lighter than the HR 2 and Minion so thought it would be a good combo overall but evidently not with the others saying about the rubbish life of the tyre, so looks like its back to the drawing board for the minute!

I'm quite liking the new Schwalbe Nobby Nic at the minute in 2.35 size, matched with a Rock Razor on the rear it seems pretty predictable in most conditions. I've never had any issues with durability on Schwalbe tyres, mine have always lasted pretty well. Never really liked High Rollers tbh, grippy but pretty draggy and reasonably heavy. I would like to try a Magic Mary, but I may well go back to my old favourite Hans Damp up front in the future.

They're rubbish in the wet, thats why they changed the name from muddy Mary.

Will have a look at the nobby nic, but am veering towards the minion as it stands. Have seen the rock razors but not looking for a rear just yet. My only gripe with them are that they are semi slick so could be rubbish in the wet and as i live in the lakes its always f***ing wet! That said though i am quite tempted by the Minion SS that are being released somepoint soon
