shorts with forward placed chamois

Hi all,
I've been looking for a new set of bib shorts for a while now but having trouble finding the right ones. Bought a pair of Sportful Bodyfit Classic but they're not as comfortable as I thought they would be because the legs move up and mainly because I find the pad is placed too much towards the rear.
This pad placement to the rear is something I notice from most brands, at least judging by the pictures I see. My previous bibs were from Bellwether and these had nicely placed chamois but I can't find them anywhere anymore.
Anyone have ideas on chamois fit and brands that place the pad relatively far forward? Preferably in combination with tight (compressive) legs and at around 100 euro (70 pounds)...

I think this is all down to fit from specific brands, personally, i would order a few different brands from your favourite online retailer and see how they fit ( and how different they all are )...
I rate Morvelo shorts as they fit snug and the pad is in a great position for me....maybe you have not found the right pair for you yet as I don't think it is necessary to find shorts with a further forward pad...this would be like a nappy?0 -
I have some sugoi shorts ( rs pro and evolution ) and they both have pads that are further forward than other brands I own. Really pleased with them.0

ordering multiple brands is what I'm planning on doing, just wanted to narrow down the options a bit. I've been studying bib short pictures for a while now but the pictures don't tell the whole story always. The Rover wrote:I have some sugoi shorts ( rs pro and evolution ) and they both have pads that are further forward than other brands I own. Very interesting you mention these, they are actually on my list. I found this review of of someone giving the RS PRo 2/5 with these remarks:- it seems to me that the chamois is positioned too far forward.
- (therefore) the insert does not give the support I expected to have after a 3 hour ride.
- Size XXL (at least one size bigger as normal) does fit ok, but the legs are still too tight
- sewing has not been done neatly
Sounds perfect to me!0 -
I already had the evolutions and read the same review before getting the rs pros but I was confidant they'd be ok. As for sizing, I'm a 40in chest, 34 waist and large are a great fit.0

I just ordered a small and a medium to be able to try both. Still looking for other options too to compare against.0 -

The pants just arrived, I'm just doubting between size M or S. Size M is snug, S is tight. May I ask you since you also have them, would you say the stretch out a bit after use? Thanks!0 -

They have stretched a bit, just based on what you've said I'd go with the M as I don't think they loosen that much.
Sorry if that's not a great help but it's late and it's been a long day!0 -
You could look at the Rapha Bib shorts, this is what they say:-
All of our shorts use the same pad (with perforations on the lightweight version), although the position the pad is sewn into the shorts is different, and this will mean there is some difference in comfort between them (e.g. on the Pro Team Short the pad is sewn in further forward, to relieve the extra pressure caused by an aggressive riding position)0 -

Thanks for the info, much appreciated! I'm still on the fence, will try both a couple more times and then choose. Based on what you said I'm leaning towards the M, it's just that usually I always pick the looser option but then later I regret it because of stretching out.FatTed wrote:You could look at the Rapha Bib shorts, this is what they say:-

Very good point, interesting that they actually mention this specifically. Unfortunately Rapha is a bit out of my budget... I was interested in the La Passione bib shorts I read about in another post on here that apparently are quite similar to the Rapha ones but they don't ship until a while from now.
Today I've looked at a couple of shorts as I was in a shop and I find it amazing how most brands place their pads, always very much to the back. Maybe it is less annoying when in a more upright position (however I don't think my position is all that aggressive) but it makes much more sense to put it more forward I think. The Sugoi pad is placed very nicely, also I noticed Assos pads are placed very much to the front and I found some pants from Davanti with also nicely placed pads.0 -
I went for the S in the end and went on a ride today, they were tight and in the beginning I was afraid I should have went for the bigger one but in the end it was fine. Very nice shorts I have to say, the first shorts I've ever had that actually stay in place during the whole ride! Thanks for all the advice!0
