After the prologue the puncheurs are going to be looking for the yellow jersey on stage 2 - I can see Movistar Orica and Lotto gunning it to get Valverde Gerrans etc to the bottom of the Brouwersdam near the front - it's going to be a proper mash-up with a hair-raising 6 m descent over the last 20 + km

I expect Maxime Monfort to attack on the hill heading into his namesake's town. (well, excusing the extra O...and T.)0

You won't be laughing if the wind blows.
Exactly what I was thinking. At least one GC contender to be out of the running.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -

Indeed, it will be very tactical if the wind comes and the echelons form. If a main contender gets stuck behind a split in the field then it makes it very difficult to get back.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720

Surely stage 2 has sprint written all over it and stage 3 will be where the puncheurs will come to the fore? Whether they will take enough time to take yellow of TM is another matter.0

That whooshing noise you can hear is the joke passing over your head0 -

Trouble is the prevailing wind at this time of year is Westerly so if it does blow it will (likely) just be a block headwind...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

It's correct. A Westerly wind comes in from the West to the East.0 -
The route appears to go south in places though - especially in the final quarter of the stage - in which case a Westerly would give a cross wind just when you want it - later in the stage and next to the coast.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

true but at that stage of the race in the second stage I suspect that all the GC guys will have enough energy to shut down a split and, more importantly, be all over front just in case anyway
It's quite a cool place to ride there - I didnt know that's where it went. We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

so if you are going generally south west it cant be en bloc0 -
Personally I'd like to congratulate them for resisting the urge to really rub salt in the wounds and change that intermediate sprint into a KoM summit on top of the Erasmusbrug.0
