So are some inner tubes more equal than others? If not recommendations please. I use schwalbe one tyres which seem to have reviews that give a good balance between performance and protection. Thanks for the advice

The main difference is between butyl tubes and latex tubes.

I've ridden both and much prefer latex. Slight improvement on rolling resistance - and the 'feel' is better (though possibly imaginary). Possibly better puncture resistance as the tube is said to deform rather that pierce for thorns and such.

Down-sides are that once punctured, can't be easily patched. So on the road, take a butyl tube and patch kit as spares - so if you do puncture, use the butyl and patch any further holes.

Also, they lose air quite readily, so you'll need to top up the air every day.

Well I used all sorts of tubes and tyres over the years, and IMO the cheapest tubes dont puncture any easier than expensive one..

Just bought cheap multy pack tubes from Chain Reaction @ http://tidd.ly/4115cd86
