Just playing with ideas really and struggling to make a decision.

I want to get an new bike ( N+1) my "old" Felt AR1 is perfectly good really and can do everything I can and want to do, but the N+1 bug just keeps eating at me.

For info, I'm not racing yet, but a keen club and sportive rider. Just completed all three days of the tour of Wessex in just outside top 10%. I enjoy and seem to be good at climbing. The felt is quite a harsh ride althouhg a lot of people say Aero is king.
So I'm looking for something that is down to the weight limit and more of a traditional, ie non aero shape. Happy to spend if it seems the right bike. I know I need to just ride them all and see which one fits best but go on, throw in your comments. Whats good, bad and ugly. Anything you think I should be looking at.
Shimano chainset preferred as I have an Ultegra Stages Crank just waiting for a good frame...

So shortlist is.....

Specialised S Works Tarmac ( everyone hates specialised don't they)
Cervelo R5 ( again snobbery puts me off) had put P5, now edited
Scott Addict SL ( SRAM equiped so no power)
Canyon CF SLX ( budget version)

Any comments?????

Have you considered the Rose X- lite? Probably about the lightest bike available for the money at the moment, plus lots of options to tailor the spec to your liking. You can't test ride one of course (unless you meet the UK rep) but the same applies to the Canyon you've listed.

The ride is harsh because its a stiff frame, and all the bikes you have listed will be the same, and the Cervelo P5 is a TT bike.

I wouldn't be looking at the big brand....

Out on a club run yesterday we had a visiting rider out with us and he was
on a Time Skylon Acktiv with Super Record....wow that is a stunning bike !

mmmmm see I knew it was worth the question.

The Rose is a good call. Amazing spec for the money. Test ride would be nice but its half the price of some of the others so the risk could be worth it.

Need to have a quick look at the Time, thanks for the suggestions.

R5 - Whose snobbery? Cracking piece of kit tbf ... I don't judge people by what's between their legs ;)
Still thinking of something clever to say!

My snobberry, both the Tarmac and R5 are supposed to be awesome.
Just have an issue with being another one of them :)
Problem being is there is a reason they are so popular.

round and Round and round I go...

Well I've got a Spesh (Allez) and a Cervelo (R2) ... At the risk of sounding snobby or a bit of a dick (cos the Allez has been a great bike), I wouldn't spend lots of money on a Specialised due to my view of the company now. Would I buy a Cervelo R5 .... Damn right I would!

I see the odd Cervelo TT bike & occasional R3 round my way, but can't say the area is flooded with them.

    That's me!

£ for £ if you want to buy a R5 you'd be as well getting a CF SLX or Cannonade Evo Hi-Mod

  • We'll, the new Addicts are definitely worth a look. I've had the original Addict back-in-the-day, after the CR1, and now have an HMX Team Addict. Also have an HMX Team Foil. The Addict is superb and I've been racing on it this season. Of course it's light. Reportedly stiffer than the old Addict, but they've managed to dial in more vertical compliance by simply speccing a standard 27.2 seatube/ post rather than an oversized option. Looks pretty "traditional", too even thought the main tubes do have slight "Kamm", tailing borrowed from the Foil...

running ultegra 6800 wheels as training / commute and Dura Ace C24's for good rides.

Absolutely wheels can also be improved but the C24's are pretty good, bit annoyed I didn't shell out the extra for the 35's.

I just want a new bike :) but don't want to get one and feel like I cold have done better.

What about a BMC SLR01, comes as a dual mechanical/ electronic frameset.

Good to see Rose bikes are still finding favour, I've had 2 over the last 4 years and can't help but sing their praises, first class bikes, top spec at a great price. Buy with confidence, alu or carbon.
