Hi all,i,m looking for some wheel recommendations for a heavyweight. My colleague is 2,07 M tall and pushing the scales at 125Kgs. He is not fat and until recently took part in many strongest man events. He is very fit but after the birth of his second child he has decided to stop the weights and take up cycling. Does anybody have any wheel recommendations please. He is looking to spend about 300 Quid at most

Hi, good luck to your mate on his journeys of fatherhood and cycling!
Have a look at these, the first ones if he's feeling flush... the 36h options would be ideal.

Thanks Nap D will send this onto him. He likes the look of the Campag and Fulcrums but i told him i doubt they will support his weight.ademort

They probably would be ok but when spokes break its a PITA with factory wheels.
I'd suggest he set himself a reward of some nice wheels for losing a big chunk of weight but it sounds like weight loss is not on the cards due to his current build. Therefore if he gets the cycling bug some Hed Ardennes or Jets in stallion build would be great as 'best' wheels but they are a lot more money.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

I suspect even in Stallion build they are a bit underbuilt for someone who weighs 125 Kg and could easily churn out 1500 Watt or more in a burst.
Looks like the kind of athlete who needs almost every component to be purpose built as he could easily smash anything built for someone half his weight with half the powerleft the forum March 20230 -
Talk to Malcolm at the Cycleclinic.
These can be built up as 36F/36R on request with either 105 or Miche Primato hubs. Not the lightest in the world but with his weight and build he won't thank you for light wheels that fall apart.

I was about to suggest the DT Swiss TK540 rim. It is touring rim. The load of your friend over the rear wheel is much like your tourist with fully loaded panniers over the rear wheel so these would work fine.
A triple butted or single butted spoke is a must though. 32 spokes on the front wheel will be just fine but 4 more wont hurt either.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Thanks Gents for the replies they are much appreciated. Apart from the wheels i,ve also suggested buying just a reasonable starter,s bike like a Giant Defy 4 or something from Decathlon Btwin and change out the wheels. Any other suggestions would be most helpfull. My mate is not going to get any lighter any time soon i can say that for sure, but obviously he will need special wheels or he,s just going to break one spoke after another.ademort
