Giant Anthem 1 27.5 to SX conversion

Hi all.
I have a Giant Anthem 1 27.5 (2014) which I love to bits. I swear it has a little motor inside it. BUT.... the one thing that would make it better is a smidge more travel at the front, especially since I fitted a Reverb. Yes, I should have brought an SX to begin with.....
My question is, if I bolt a 120mm fork on, have I basically created an SX? From what I've read the frame itself is the same between the models, the geometry only changes because of the extra height of the fork. I'm wary of adding any additional stress to whats already a lightweight frame if it's not meant for it.
Many thanks in advance.

That's all the difference, and 120mm forks for Anthems were popular before giant caught on.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Cheers for that. A brilliant bike can now be even better!0 -
I had a 120mm fork on my 2012 Anthem 26" and it was spot on. Don't underestimate the strength of the Anthem frame, it's a surprisingly tough old lump.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Did you find it affected its goat like climbing ability much?0 -

The only problem now is due to Giant being bloody numpties with their new 'standard' I'm going to be left with a pair of perfectly good forks that I can't sell on. Does any other brand use 1.25-1.5?0

You probably won't get the money you would for a fork with a normal tapered steerer, but as the head tube is no different, just the upper bearings, when you fit the new fork you'll need to replace the upper headset and stem. I'd then sell the fork with the old upper head set and old stem. Won't add a huge amount to the value, but makes it a lot more saleable as it will fit a lot more bikes.0 -

Good thinking Batman. I've found the replacement Giant headset on sale down from £50 to £20 so it could be worse.0
