On my way up to Manchester last weekend there was a van behind me on the M5 and the driver was talking on his phone with one hand and texting on a different phone with the other. Nutter.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

On a serious note, when did this surveillance culture start?
Is it because London is arguably the most heavily monitored city (CCTV on every street corner in shops on buses etc) in the World.
Does it create this belief that Londoners should and need to snoop on each other?Food Chain number = 4
A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -

I don't use mine much - keep forgetting to charge it - but I got mine after almost being left hooked by one tipper truck and overtaken by one behind. It was the single most scariest moment I have had on a bike, and made me realise that if anything bad happened, people would think I had gone up the inside, when I wouldn't do so in a million years. So at least when they scraped me up off the road and managed to retrieve the memory card, my street cred as a law abiding cyclist would be intact.
Am not one for the helmet cam vigilante stuff - apart from anything else I can't work out the GoPro software to retrieve anything but the whole set of footage. I still have hours of footage from a recent cycling holiday in Jordan that I haven't quite worked out how to edit down yet
I got mine after I was knocked off on a roundabout. I have better things to with my evenings than trawl through footage to post on youtube or the like. Mine is just for evidential purposes, for any incidents involving me, like msmancunia.
Ive never eaten whilst in motion. mostly because then all my helmetcam footage would be of me falling off... :oops:0 -

Ha ha - true! The OH did my commute the other week to deliver me some lunch (bless'im!) and declared he would never commute that route as it's "full of w*nkers". He didnt even do it at rush hour.0 -

Is it attached to your helmet?
If so, I would suggest looking into how that impacts the effectiveness of the crash helmet.0 -
I've got a camera, but I use it for far more practical reasons.
1. I'm trying to capture on camera what Awesome (tm) looks like.
2. When I'm really bored I pretend its a lazer and I'm a space (specifically space) fighter pilot.
3. In its mount, it looks cool along with my Garmin
4. I'm hoping one day I'll ride behind (insert female name here) on a Bianchi and that footage will be for my own personal usage.Food Chain number = 4

i still dont get the wearing a camera on your commute, unless you live in some remote mountains you're guaranteed to come across dozens of people doing illegal things on bikes, cars, foot etc.
The Met aren't interested in preventing cycle accidents and only slightly interested in investigating them. But if you have it recorded, the driver's insurance company has little chance of contesting a claim.
If you're hurt you get compensation (woo hoo!), the driver's insurance premiums go up (fair enough!) and the accident stats include you so that maybe, some day, something will be done about lowering them (the dream).
*in two years of helmet-cam use I've reported twice to Roadsafe, which achieved absolutely nothing, so what's the point?0 -
^^
+1
I'll post some bits n pieces on youtube/here sometimes but its mainly in case some tw@t knocks me off my bike and puts me in hospital but denies all knowledge.
I have recently put front/rear cam system in my car because exactly the same tw@ts who would knock you off a bike will do something stupid when you're driving a car - that and someone out for a rear-ender fraud claim.
Its about protecting myself and as the technology is out there, using it.1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur

Back to bikes, wearing a helmet cam is inconvenient and embarrassing, but it's helped me out a couple of times. Yesterday an email arrived from the Met regarding an accident where I was left-hooked, saying "having reviewed your ... video ... there is clear evidence for an offence of driving without due care and attention". No he said / she said argument with the Met throwing its hands in the air, which is what would've happened without the video.0 -

Huh? It was the rear-facing camera on the van that captured the 'incident'.0 -
