Hello - can anyone recommend a pub that is known to stick on live Tour coverage in the afternoon?
Ideally in zones 1-2 and that serves decent beer (ale)?
(I know about Look Mum No Hands and other cycling caffs but not really after that.)

I really doubt many will be showing it to be honest, that said, the canadian bar (maple leaf?) was showing cycling last time I was in there, but its shit.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
Hi KOTLT
We have watched several stages before at The Albion pub on Ludgate Circus. The manager says he always shows the cycling, even if it has to go on a TV in the upstairs function room if a cricket match is on downstairs. Also has a good range of ales. That reminds me to organise the queen stage lunch that we've held there a couple of times !! I will contact the pub to make sure they're still tour-friendly & report back soon.0 -

as it's during the day I suspect a few sports pubs will show it. Best bet is find a decent pub with sky on, with very little other sports on during the day they may put it on for you.
Are you planning on spending three weeks in the pub ?0 -
No just targetting one or two stages to take the afternoon off and watch with mates.
Would rather not leave it to the chance of persuading some grumpy disinterested bar staff to stick it on though.0 -

This was a good number of years ago. But I had a meeting here one afternoon http://www.ruddsblackfriars.co.uk/ (it may have had a different name at the time) and they were showing a stage. I soon became more disinterested in the meeting!0 -
I shall keep my eye on this thread as I fancy an afternoon in the boozer for a good mountain-top.0

My local would probably put the Tour on, if you asked them nicely. They have a TV, but it's rarely on (FA Cup final etc).
And they serve a wide range of excellent ales. Drop me a PM, if you're interested.Ben

Just popped into The Albion and spoke with Scott the manager. The TdF will be shown each weekday afternoon, as he's a cycling fan himself, even when there's test cricket on. It maybe upstairs in the function room, so do ask the staff if it looks like it's not on the TV in the pub.
I plan to be there on Thursday 16th July for stage 12, with a few old cycling mates, and as many times in the last week as I can.0 -
oh cheers squire, much obliged.0
-
Just a reminder that I will be at The Albion with a few cycling punters this Thursday for stage 12. As it's a cricket day too, it may be on the TV upstairs.

as part of the London Wonderground pop up venue at Southbank Centre \ Hungerford Bridge there is a Look Ma No Hands café \ bar. May head there next week but that will be post week, didn't see any TV screens there either0

Since is was gigging in the Purple Cow I spend Tues & Wed at LMNH pop up. It was great. Belgian beer, hot dogs, bikes and lots of people watching. Highly recommended.0 -
FYI the Hop & Grapes just up the road from the Albion on Farringdon St has a second-floor room where they are happy to put the cycling on.0

Why? I was there yesterday (thanks for the complete lack of company!) and it was rammed. They sell beer - great atmosphere.0 -

Yeah exactly - don't really like rammed places, scrambling for a table, queuing for drinks etc0 -

isn't that the point with sport though, to create a bit of atmosphere. Otherwise take the day off and watch it at home0 -

No the point might be to sit down, rather than stand up, with mates, who live in different places outside of London, in a place where you can have a chat, hear the commentary (a mixed blessing admittedly), not have to make yourself heard over the prattle of The New Bearded Cycling Experts and not have to pay six quid for a bottle of over-hopped 'craft beer'.0 -
All fair enough, but what's wrong with hops?0
-
It wasn't £6 a bottle either; more like £5.500

Nothing at all, as long as they are in balance with the malt0 -
I like a really hoppy IPA myself. Not all the time, I like variety, but they are nice.0

Just been into the Pedal Back Cafe in Tooting, Broadway Market. They have a TV and serve coffee and nice sandwiches, as well as having a service area. I had a cappo whilst my gears were being looked at.
They are applying for a beer licence, and I may just watch a few races in there moving forwards.0 -
We ended up at the Hoop & Grapes on Farringdon St. Worked well.0

They seem to have a function room with a TV which is probably more for bookings and larger do's, but also a 1st floor room with a TV, where he was happy to put on the Tour for us.
Also a TV in the downstairs bar, which would have been perfect, but that had the cricket on.0
