I think for that kind of budget I would look at the Decathlon Triban range. Probably your best bet0

^^^^ as above with the triban unless you're prepared to go 2nd hand.0

As others have said the Triban is about your best - and pretty much only bet. Avoid anything in Halfords, it will suck.
But at this price you're going to be best off going second hand, have a look at the classifieds section.
BTW I'm sure you're aware but £300 is nothing for a road bike, if you were to have, say, £500, then there's a tonne more choice.0 -

I dont mind going second hand. but what would you suggest or is there to much to say.0 -

Far too much really. You're best off finding some in your price range and post them back here? The most important thing second hand is fit, do not be tempted to get something which isn't your size just because it's a good price.0 -

I have a halfords carrera tdf, still going strong 5 yrs later and not a single problem and for the massive price of 265 quid. Make sure you get one with at least the claris groupset and it should be ok. Just the build that lets halfords down sometimes. Triban still wins though, never knew about them when I got mine.0

Probably worth paying the extra for the 500; you get a carbon fork and slightly better components. reviews are overall very good.0 -

Triban 500 SE for sure, much better VFM and worth saving a few more pennies for it0 -
Ok i look into it.
really helpfull guys.
Thank you very much.0 -
The cheaper of the Tribans is better by a far margin than the halfords thing, as already suggested if you can stretch to the higher priced triban it's alot better bike. Halfords biggest issues are that some of their mechanics are useless and it is touch and go if you get a decent one to finish the bike assembly and do a proper safety check prior to being picked up by customers. The spec is pretty poor on a lot of Tue bikes they sell apart from Boardman. 7 speed gearing is very old given bikes are mostly 10 /11 speed, but nothing wrong with that but more choice with 8 speed upwards. Good look choosing, remember buying second hand is ok if the bike fits you size wise and is well maintained otherwise it could cost you dear. Sometimes better to get new if you don't know what you are looking at.
The 7 speed on the carrera is only a couple of years "old". tourney was newly created for the road bike not so long ago. Chances are if you like the road biking, you will get another in a couple of years anyway so in reality they will all do the job.
Side note I have had bikes from decathlon and evans which were not not built up that great.0 -

Nah, it even has top bar shifters does that one so lower spec that the halfords one. Has to be the triban 500 SE.0 -

As already said, far too much.
However....... raid the piggy bank and find an extra 100 quid, getting a good frame here.

If you're thinking of going down the 2nd hand route then here are a couple of candidates from the "Classified" section on this forum

Both are listed as collection only but since I don't know your location it's a moot point if they are of any relevance. Who know's - the seller might be persuaded to ship for a suitable fee on top of the asking price.
Either of these would be as good if not a better bet than the Triban - although you would have to factor in the absence of a manufacturers warranty0 -
Decathalon bikes are super value I agree. There's also this from Merlin for 350 http://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-performance-pr7-road-bike-73113.html Otherwise used I'd say.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Before spending every last penny on a bike, don't forget to save some money back for any other bits you might need...pump, shorts, water bottle, saddle bag etc etc. If you go for a bike from Decathlon, look around there, they have some good budget cycling accessories and clothing.0

2nd Hand definitely, I picked up a fabulous Trek for £325, which although proved slightly too 'racy' for me (low front end), was a stunning buy for the money. Was on Gumtree, and although I had a fair journey to collect it, it was worth it. Sold it for £425 :-)
I'd visit a few bike shops to see what fits you, and scour the ads, - but be careful, dont buy blind.0
