Is there an easy/safe way of installing cartridge bearings to a hub without a proper press and drifts?

You could try an M8 long threaded bolt, or threaded bar, large dia. M8 repair washers and M8 hex nut, plus a square drive socket that matches the O.D. of the bearing race that you want to press into the hub shell. Press one bearing in at a time.

When pressing a bearing into a shell, make sure you exert pressure on the outside otherwise you can damage the bearing by pressing on the inner bore.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thanks for that. Decided to let the mechanic do it, but I'll get the above for next time.
