LOL you've no idea how much you "need"
Wettie, shorts, jersey (possibly), lid, eye protection, mitts, spare tubes, tools, bottles, cages, book on bike maintenance, upgraded wheels, another bike, a turbo trainer, maybe another bike as well.
And that's just for starters  - welcome to a whole new world of consumer experiences.
On a serious note, you need to ride your bike. Summer's here, get out there and love it. Oh, and wear suncream.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
Contact points are crucial. Decent pair of bibshorts and a decent pair of mitts.
And you've missed something vital; you have tyre levers and a spare tube, but nothing to pump it up with
(make sure any pump is suitable for presta valves, and rated to get you up to 100 psi; some of the high volume ones for MTB use won't get anywhere near road pressures)
And have a go at changing a tube at home in the dry / warm / daylight. You'll be glad of the practice when you're doing it in the rain at night, which is precisely when it's likely to happen...
And consider carrying 2 tubes, or one and a puncture repair kit. Sometimes the buggers come in twos and threes!
Oh and get some chain lube, but use it very sparingly and wipe off any excess along with the dirt maybe once a week.0 -

Agreed on this - for bib-shorts/mitts a trip to the local decathlon may be worth while. What decent is will depend on length of ride for 1-2 hours I find most stuff fine (except low end muddy fox from sport direct).
I'd also add check reviews for pumps-some say 100psi but in reality you'd be better off with lung power . I also tend to carry a tire "boot", basically something to put inside the tire to get you home when there's a split in the side wall. My favoured method is to cut the top off an empty toothpaste tube and use the main body, but anything similar will also do.
I'd also add glasses, in terms of stopping stuff (including rain) going into your eyes and reducing watering from wind I wouldn't be without them.0 -

The 300+ mile round trip puts me off a trip to decathlon for a pair of mittsSecretSam wrote:LOL you've no idea how much you "need"
