Building my lad a bike up. Road frame, using some existing road parts. The road frame is for 26in wheels, I have a pair of XT-alex 10sp mtb wheels. The front fits perfectly, rear has the wrong spacing (too wide). Can the internal part of the hub be swapped, spacers removed etc? The cassette with be 8speed Claris.
Whilst on the road bike mtb parts subject. Will a 8speed Claris shifter be compatible with a 10sp Xt mech on an 8sp casette?

The frame will likely be 130mm, the MTB hub 135mm. Just "spring" the frame apart (pull it!) assuming it's steel. No problems doing that.0

It's alu. So not a safe option. I have done it on steel frames.0

might be able to replace the 135mm axle with a 130mm from a road hub0

That was what I was thinking, not sure if the dishing would be wrong though :?:0

it's possible the wheel will sit 5mm to the left
other option is eBay the wheel and buy another of course - might be easier0 -
which XT hub? if Disc ready then nope.
and Claris will not work as the MTB 10spd is a different ration to the rest of the Shimano range."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
