Why can't front mechs have barrel adjusters?

Given they are a bit of a PITA to set up why can't they have a barrel adjuster on them?
I'm sure there is a good reason for it and to be honest it only takes a couple of minutes as it is but it annoys me! possibly a bit of a first world problem!

The barrel adjuster on the downtube not good enough for you? :P0

Presumably because of the shape of the FD. They do tend to have an inline adjuster which does the same job or an adjuster on the downtube0

internal cable routing! and could the same not be said for the rear? but that has one!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
Because front mechs are not quite as fussy as rear mechs and cope with less than perfect cable tension better? I've not had to adjust the front since I built the bike, but I've had to tweak the rear a few times. But I need to adjust the front now but only because the cable seems to have moved and the crank hits it in the little ring now.
The trim function might also help get around minor issues. Unless you're Manc33 and have a quick link fitted of course.0 -
I was wondering the same when I built up my CR1. No provision for downtube adjusters. I think I ended up with too much cable tension and broke the front shifter. Fitted in-line adjusters when I recabled and fitted the replacement Ebay shifter.0

Putting an inline adjuster on the exposed bit of cable run is the solution.0

Because it stops you plugging the Di2 wires together?ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

There isn't a cable stop on front mechs as the inner cable can be routed to them under tension with little need for outer cable. As suggested, fit an in-line barrel adjuster.0

Then why don't you run one between the bars and downtube like everyone else? Alternatively go Di2.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -

I do, I was just wondering why there is one on the rear and not the front. Would just make things easier, it doesn't keep me up at night or anything, don't worrywww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
Shimano did a way with them on the Shadow-style rear mechs for MTBs. That just relies on the adjuster on the shifter. Since road shifters do not have the adjuster that makes it a little messier for the group set manufacturer to sell you all the bits but then require an extra widget that would then have to make or include - and if that's with aftermarket components does it go with the mech, shifter or both?0
