Novatec D772 11 Speed?

I picked up a Novatec D772 rear hub earlier this year for a wheel build. I've finally got round to fitting tyres etc to put on my CX bike but the 11 speed cassette won't fit. The hub was shown as 8/9/10/11 speed compatible. I'm trying to fit a Shimano 105 5800 11 speed cassette but the 11 tooth sprocket just won't locate.

I've tried the 5800 cassette on other wheels and it's fine. I've tried 2 other shimano 11 speed cassettes on the novatec hub and it's a no go.

If I take a spacer out the 11 speed cassette then it fits fine but obviously this isn't right but this leads me to believe that the free hub isn't 11 speed. The only marking on the free hub is gg1-t02070100001-B. It also has the Anti Bite Guard.

Anyone got any help? I'm going to be majorly pi**ed off if it can't run 11 speed as I'll have wasted money on spokes, the hub and my time building the wheel. Lets hope it's an easy fix.

You shouldn't need a spacer for an 11 speed cassette.

Why do you fit the spacer?

That's a way to make it compatible for 9-10 speed cassettes... you don't need it... it's all in the FAQ on this part of the forum and the article has been there for 2 years...

Sorry I didn't mean the spacer behind the cassette. Obviously I've not put that on. I meant the spacers between the sprockets.

I'm getting sent an 11sp free hub as it's not against the odds it may have come from the factory with a 10 speed fitted. So fingers crossed that will solve it.

I got a Novatec 711 a while ago which was supposed to be 11 speed, but the cassette wouldn't fit. I carefully measured the free hub, and sure enough, I'd received a 10 speed in error. Sound like you've got the same. Like you, I just changed the freehub.

Initially these hubs came with a 10 speed fitted and an 11 speed body in a plastic bag when they switched to 11.
Sometimes the wholesaler just keeps the body and ships the hub as it comes and then sells the 11 speed body as an upgrade.
They should be supplied 11 speed fitted by now.

Yup it was the wrong freehub. Got a new freehub sent (with 11S stamped on it) and sure enough it's all working perfect now.
