Hi
Looking to upgrade my Roubaix to Ultegra from Sora, I am at a cross roads to go full ultegra and use the Praxis BB adapter (which gets good reviews) or Ultegra with suitable BB30/OSBB crankset such as SRAM Red which I have been advised will work out of the box.

Any advice or experience with either solution (or simiar) would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • I had a Roubaix and used the Wheels Manufacturing pressfit adapter for a full ultegra group with no problems and smooth shifting.

I have the same bike as you and recently got the Praxis BB, I mainly got to stop the creaking problems of the specialized one which came with the bike, plus the Praxis is a lot easier to take a part should you ever need to maintain it.

Although I would personally look at going Ultegra Di2 if you are wanting to upgrade as if you are OK keeping your current crank and brake callipers, you can do it for less than £700. But it is worth noting that if you are going for a 11 speed rear derailer, you will probably also need to upgrade the rear wheel as my Roubaix (2014) only supports 9 or 10 speed.

I too use a wheel manufacturing adaptor. Highly recommended. Just take the old crankset out and push the adaptors in with your hands. It looks more neater to have the full groupset.

I have a Roubaix that came from the shop with a Praxis adapter - so you can be certain that the frame and the adapter will work well together. And if you haven't already paid out for the groupset, and aren't aiming for Di2, may I suggest you consider 105?

Why? If he wants Ultegra and can afford Ultegra and has researched Ultegra and likes Ultegra and Ultegra fits all his requirements and he has found Ultegra at a price he likes why then downgrade to 105?

Surely a more pertinent question would be why not consider Force? Some say that its lighter, better looking, functions nicer, nicer to use ......... But that's only some people.

Giving consideration to 105 is actually sound advice as the difference in both weight and performance is minimal, yet with a decent cost saving

Love the way you stick the knife in to an alternative viewpoint and offer exactly the same.

You've just made yourself look a bit daft.

No, not really. The OP was asking after Ultegra, not 105.

If the original post had been "what shall I get, 105 OR Ultegra" and I would have gone off on one, the yup, I agree 100% with you.

As it is, you and matey lad are asking a question didn't want answering.

Deftness? Nah. Answering the question that someone actually asked? Errrr, maybe.

    Next please.

It's only a downgrade if every last gram matters, you want Di2 shifting or you prefer the look of Ultegra. If you might want to run 28c tyres (I can't be the only person weird enough to have ever done this) 105 is the upgrade! And it's only a suggestion.
