Rapha Outlet at Kilver Court

I have just found out that I have to go to Warminster tomorrow and thought that it would not be much of a diversion for me to go to the Rapha factory outlet at Kilver Court (I refuse to use the term 'archive store'). Anybody been there recently and, if so, are there any bargains to be had? Never bought Rapha before but there's always a first time if the circumstances are right!

I was there on Saturday and overall was dissapointed. Price wise its great as most things are 50% off, however size wise the majority of stuff is either XSmall or XXL, there are a few items in medium and large / XL but it really is slim pickings. So it really depends on your size and what your after, I was able to pick up a pair of thermal bibs for £110 instead of £190 and I also bought a hardshell jacket for next winter for £130 instad of £260

The prices are good for Rapha. It's not the easiest store to find stuff in though because it's not the biggest but the staff will help if you ask. The pro bib shorts are about £110 IIRC down from £190.

I think what they have in varies a lot too, as I'm not sure how Rapha decide to stock it since a lot of it is current gear.

Worth sticking your head through the door if you're in the area, certainly. Plenty in stock if you're xs/s or xl+, not too much if you're in between, although it's worth asking if they have anything not on the shelves. Discounts can be pretty hefty - it puts things at the upper limit of what I would spend, rather than way, way beyond it!

its worth a visit but remember the purpose of this store is to move on old stock and stuff that might not have made it to the main product catalogue, as others have said there's the odd current stock items too.

its much like any designer outlet store in that respect, i personally like it but then i like Rapha and i work in ecommerce so shopping in general is my thing :D

  • Like others have said most stock seems to be the extreme of the size range. However they did have thermal bib shorts going for £110 in most sizes and I think the Grand Tour shoes were available in most sizes for £150.

Do they generally stock classic / pro bib shorts in people's experience? Sorry if this is a daft question but living in London it's quite a long journey. I'd prob pick up other stuff if I made the trip but I'd primarily be going for bibs.

Also has anyone rang first to check stock levels? just wondering how helpful they are.

I think I've seen one of them replying to tweets about stock, so would imagine they'll be helpful on the phone too.

They had pro bibs when I was in.

I was there yesterday and as most have said there is a lot of stuff at 50% off. If you're a size XS, S or XL then you will have rich pickings but if you're a M or L then stock is limited. However if you take your time and search through everything you may find a nugget like I did! Worth a visit if you're in the area.

I'm going down to Cornwall from the north west in about 10 days or so - not being familiar with this neck of the woods, is it much of a detour to come off the motorway to pop in for a visit? It might make a good rest stop to break the journey, but if it's an hour or so onto the journey then I don't think I could be mithered.

I always take a size small, so stock wise it seems it might be worth my while, but as I say, not if it's too much of a diversion. It doesn't look too onerous on the map, but a bit of local advice would be helpful. Ta.

Depends where in cornwall but I'd say it's another 2 hours from there. Also depends on how your opinion of speed on the A38/A30 tallies with the law ;)

Do 'antiRaphas' have a 'fat MAMIL jibe'?
Those are (at least) two separate things IMO.

How can you even have an 'Archive Store'? The two words are completely contradictory in the context of a shop

We ve not had one for a while so maybe you ve forgotten but "rapha is for fat rich MAMILS with more money than sense" is one of the most common lines in the Rapha threads. Usually it's followed by the classic line "I only wear Castelli" - that niche, cheap, budget brand with no pretensions about image whatsoever...

The other Rapha thread classic is 'I never pay full price' used as some kind of defence mechanism in case people poke you with sticks and laugh because you paid RRP.

Having started this thread, I feel mildly guilty about not coming back with another post. In the end, I ran out of time on the day that I was first talking about going to the Rapha outlet but I did manage to swing past their earlier this week. Never having seen Rapha kit up close before, I have got to say that I was very impressed by the general quality of materials and manufacture. As for stock, they only had one pair of bib shorts that fitted me in the whole store (Size L) but I was a bit put off by the the graphics plastered all over them. I did however buy 3 long sleeve jerseys at £60 each (RRP £130) all of which are pretty subtle designs and IMHO very good value for money. They are all very high quality and even my Mrs commented on how good they were when she came home from work and saw then hanging up.

Just for information, apparently Rapha are saying anything bought from the Archive store is not eligibale for repair. I unfortunately put my finger through the armpit on my Pro Team jersey putting it on at the weekend. I've replied back to see what can be done, but just as a heads up for everyone.

They have an online returns process linked to your orders. Unless you say its crash damage?

You have to provide an invoice number to verify. I even offered to pay to have it repaired and they have now said no. Looks like I am going to have to stitch and hope it holds... Left a bit of a sour taste really. You can only be part of the 'true Rapha club' if you buy from the store or website (archive not included)

    Oh, ok.

Just an Fyi and obviously I'm not telling you to lie or anything dishonest (ahem) but ive had two things repaired by taking them into the club (london and A'dam) and I ve never been asked for any proof of purchase...they say it ll take longer but that's usually not a big problem.

Good advise but if that doesn't workout for you PM me and I'll give you the details of a very good tailor who if he can't repair it invisibly he might know someone who can.

So...decided to do the two hour detour around the Glastonbury Festival area to pop into KC, but did get a hardshell jacket for 50% off, so swings and roundabouts...

To be honest I could have spent a fair bit more, but couldn't really justify it, given we were going on a short holiday at the time. Plenty of stuff my size, but happy with the bargain jacket. And the four hour delays coming back from Cornwall (M6 shut!) made that first detour seem pretty insignificant.

I'm genuinely curious which bib shorts you looked at because Rapha's designs (save the latest 80s Pro jerseys) are pretty subtle.

Sounds like you did well otherwise. Good work!

Ben, To be honest, I can't remember what design they were (although they were not Team Sky) but they were fairly plastered with various sponsor names (I think Bianchi was one of them but might be wrong). Otherwise, I agree that Rapha designs (Team Sky excluded) are usually quite subtle.

After reading this I dived in Saturday on my way to holiday in Devon & Cornwall.

Was pretty impressed to be fair. Bought a lightweight jersey in white/grey for £40 (RRP £90) and a casual merino wool polo shirt for £40 (RRP £90) which isn't too shabby.

Could have spent a load more, but my son found Jack Wills downstairs and some nice Paul Smith bits :(
Still thinking of something clever to say!

Got to say, I always want my cycling gear to be able to withstand that whole crazy, destructive, not what our our range was designed for "putting on" business. :?
