Hi all

What are the main reasons why flat bars are used instead of risers for competitive XC riding?
Is it for power/stiffness?
Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.

to get the right body position for wheel weighting and aero benefits.

Even more so on a 29er where the BB and saddle haven't changed height (relative to the ground) but the top of the headtube has risen, hence the recent(ish) introduction of inverted stems, some even -25deg, on XC bikes.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

I just like my bars low to improve handling and get better feel for the front tyre. It also helps keep weight over the front wheel while using a short stem.

Recently picked up some straight bars to try.
Had them before risers but want to try them again, so will see.
