Canyon Line Refresh

Evening all,

Like many others I'm after a new bike. After reading this forum for the last few weeks, I've been tempted to go with Rose, or go with a personal built (Kinesis Aithein) but each time I come back to the Canyon website I can't help myself but just plain want one.

So my question - is there usually a product line refresh each year? I am looking at an Ultimate CF or CF SLX and just wondering if I should wait for this summer to pass and perhaps order something then if new bikes are on the horizon.

I'm fairly happy to keep slogging away on my trusty Giant Defy 3.5 for the moment - I have no plan of rushing into any purchase.

Your input would be appreciated :).

No idea about the line up changing but they usually chuck in some extras or give a small discount during the Tour so if you hang on a few months you'd get those.

The bigger thing though is they set their Sterling price once a year and then stick to it. With the collapse of the Euro against Sterling it's loads cheaper now if you could buy in Euro, however, they won't let you do that and still have the bike delivered in the UK. Might be worth waiting for this to be reset.

Tricky though as I think Rose put their prices up recently as the parts they buy in are all priced in USD which makes them more expensive for them to buy and they have to pass this on.

Any Forex speculators out there who can advise!
  • highly dought any changes to the SL/SLX. They're only 2 years old and the previous model was around for 5-6 years under Cadel and Phil Gil.

Maybe they'll do a disc version for 2016, Canyon is the only big brand without discs on their roadbikes.

So maybe an Endurace SLX with discs. Of course SLX with discs is an oxymoron much like Range Rover Sport :-)
The titifers have sung their song.

    Now it's time for sleep.

Not sure about the road stuff but I know that their MTBs are discounted at the end of the product year/season/whatever. I'm hoping to pick up a cheap(er) 2015 bike when the 2016 line comes out....

    Thanks for your responses.

Didn't realise the timescale was that long for the range refresh so thanks for that info.

Like you say londoncommuter - I think it's definitely worth waiting for Canyon to update the conversion as that should result in a fairly big discount on GBP prices anyway... when they will get round to doing that is another uncertainty though.

the change to fixed sterling prices was something they introduced for this years range and no guarantees it will continue, who knows what they ll do next year, but when has a manufacture reduced prices? people are prepared to pay this years rates, so they'd be stupid to cut them, it devalues the product but even at the prices they charged this year, they are still far cheaper than an equivalent from an lbs.

most of their popular models and sizes are sold out by now and new model range will be out around sept.

I read that there were rumours of a new Ultimate SLX release for the TdF. Could be rubbish though for the reasons 'slam the stem' states above.

I don't think the cycle time has been as long as mentioned above (i.e. 5 or 6 years)
There could be a new SLX next year but I think 2017 is more likely with the new SL lagging a year behind.
There was a disk version of the SLX displayed at one of the shows (Interbike?) some time ago. I'd be surprised if it, or something similar, doesn't make an appearance soon.

Anyway, the current bikes are fully up to date with the exception of disk brakes so unless you want those (I might) then I'd buy the current model.
