Replacement BB Bearing Question (BB30A)

Hi all,

I have the 2014 Cannondale Synapse which has the slightly wider (73mm) BB30-A.

It's been a year, so I thought it might be time to service the bottom bracket and replace the sealed cartridge bearings. Having said that, I'm not having any issues with the current BB.

Could someone kindly confirm that I can buy a "BB30" cartridge bearing set, and it will work in the BB30A - I am pretty sure this is correct as the only difference between BB30 & BB30A is the lateral width of the BB, not the circumference into which the cartridge will sit.

None of the on line bike shops specify this detail, but I just wanted to confirm.

PS for anyone with a BB30A who wants to convert to Shimano cranks, I have just found out that Kogel Bearings in the US are now producing a bespoke product to do this which is specifically BB30A compatible. I don't think they have any UK suppliers though. When I bought the bike a year ago, I wanted to put Shimano cranks on it, but at the time there wasn't a system for the BB30A (just the "regular" BB30).
