A free day in Geneva

Hi folks, I've got to go to Geneva for work on a Monday and I'm tempted to fly on the Saturday to do some riding on the Sunday. Looks like the Portes du Soleil area isn't too far away but I'll have no car to get around. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting to Les Gets for example by public transport on a Sunday and hiring a bike? Or is there somewhere else in the area I could get to instead? Any info on costs would also be great. Thanks in advance!

Public Transport up to Morzine/Les Gets isn't great, especially on a weekend.
Your best bet for doing that would be to either speak to a transfer company about a return trip, or get a train from the airport and figure out how to get to either Cluses or Thonon and taxi from there. Taxi from Thonon will be around €50-70, no idea from Cluses. All the bike shops in town rent out bikes, no idea on prices though.
Closer to Geneva, there is some biking at Saléve, it's just over the border, so taxi should be cheap, but I don't think it has a bike shop or anywhere to rent and I've been unable to find anything on the trails.
Even though it's only an hours drive to Les Gets from Geneva, the hassle involved in getting up there may make it not worth your while.
If your dates are during the summer season, try phoning around the transfer companies and see if they have any buses going down to the city. Best bet would probably be Alpine Elements as they do coaches and unless they've changed, transfer day is sunday, but that is morning. With all the hassle, it might actually work out easier and cheaper to hire a car from the airport. Failing that, check out bus timetables online and try to figure out a route that works for you.
If you do decide on train though, you're looking at a train from the airport into Geneva, tram across to some little station I can't remember the name of, then either straight through to Cluses, or transfer at Annemasse for Thonon. I'd recommend Cluses though, closer for Les Gets and an easier and shorter trip into the mountains.Check out my site - http://www.trail-dog.co.uk
