Dérailleur limit screws - do they stay put?
Every now and again I'll be riding along and I'll drop my chain on a front gear change, and I'll know that the front (mechanical) dérailleur limit screws are out again. Often I'll forget or not get around to fixing it for a few rides, as when it starts happening it's very intermittent anyway. They always seem to have loosened, so that the chain goes off the outside of the big ring when changing up or off the inside of the small one when changing down. I'll fix it and then it'll be fine for three or four weeks and then it'll start happening again...
It seems to me that they must just gradually loosen over many miles due to vibration and the fact that they have a little spring exerting force outwards. Surely the manufacturers could improve on this design, e.g. find a way to lock them in position after they are set? Or do they just want to keep them doing this so that people feel a need to upgrade to electronic?
Contemplating experimenting with some sort of threadlock on the screws...
