Although I find it fun to ride with downtube shifters every now and then, I never feel very safe!
As someone who grew up with D/T shifters, and has since tried the modern 'all in one' brake and gear shifters, I wouldn't go back. But you have to start somewhere! But agree about the suicide levers - horrible things, get rid.
It's just a hill. Get over it.
I'm boring and stick to rear view camera shots.
