Hi
I switching from a heavy steel touring bike (after many years) to a lightweight road bike. Like many others (I expect) I have trawled through the magazines, websites and visited several bike shops. I've set myself a budget of £1500-2000. Rightly or wrongly I want a carbon bike, must be a comfortable ride with a reasonably upright riding position. I've shortlisted 3 bikes (from the above research), Trek Domane 4.5 (maybe 4.3), Cannonade Synapse 105.5 and the Scott Solace 30. All appear to have Shimano 105 throughout.

I'd be grateful for any feedback / advice especially from those who have ridden these bikes. I've gone for the well know brands as I don't have the knowledge to consider the more specialist builders.

Many thanks for any help.

I have a Scott solace 20, my friend has the Madone 4.5. Much prefer mine, it's lighter, his has external cables on a £2000+ bike, mine is fully internal. Mine has full Ultegra his only partial, comfort wise they are on a par, mine just looks better.

Incidentally did have a ride on a Synapse 105 6, brief ride that seemed very nice. Seemed good value to at £1500 with 10% discount bringing it down to £1250.

Also gave a look at Canyon Endurace or Rose CGF, much more for your money.

Thanks for the advice Plodder. Not having any experience of internal cables, what's the upside...apart from appearance, doesn't it make maintenance more difficult? Probably a daft question I'm sure!

    Thanks,

No advantage really just looks neater. Maintenance isn't an issue I'm no expert but I do my own internal cables. Once you know how it's just as easy.

The Aluminium Claris, same geometry as the Carbon. Still a fantastic ride :)
