I'm looking to buy a sit-up-and-beg/dutch-granny-geometry bike (so to fit a front child seat without getting in the way), that doesn't weigh a ton (to cope with Sheffield hills). Ah, and cheap too :D (just for small trips around town and short family outings). I know lightweight and city-bike don't normally go together, but I'm not looking for performance lightweight, just as much below 15 kgs as possible without breaking the bank.

Any suggestions? Impossible?

    This any good?

    Genesis Smithfield

Has the upright position and a rear rack for a child seat but there may be room for a top-tube mounted one if that's your objective. Priced at around the £850 mark

Slightly confusing re geariung as the description under "Urban Gears" mentions 46/36 chainset with 11-32 cassette but the "Transmission" spec it mentions a single 46 chainwheel with an Alfine 20 rear sprocket. I guess both options can be specced.

Looks great, but a bit more money than I'd want to spend. And the fixie model wouldn't really work in Sheffield

    What's your budget then?

Perhaps the Genesis Borough might be a better option

Based around the Croix de Fer CX bike - but this one is cheaper (£700) and has the 46/36 chainset with 11-32 cassette. Sub 15kg as you require. Should get you up most if not all of your hills around Sheffield.
