A Bottom Bracket;

Current one is Ultegra 6700, but after approx 5k miles now sounds like an old door that hasn't been oiled. Can it be serviced is one question?

The equivalent replacement is now BB-R60 Ultegra 6800/105 5800, as it seems the 6700 has been discontinued, the rub is that it needs a new tool but at £12 (CRC) is it worth servicing?

    It is apparently possible to pick out the seals and service them after a fashion. Given how cheap they are now I don't bother though.

    My last 105 BB lasted over 3 years then I replaced it with Ultegra 6700 just because CRC were selling them off cheap. That's been on there 4 years now.

    The newer, smaller diameter 5800 / 6800 BB cups usually come with a plastic insert so you can fit them with an old HT2 tool. I imagine it's easier with the proper tool though.
