Conversion Help Please

Hello,

I am ordering parts to complete a flat bar conversion to my Jamis Xenith Comp 2014 which runs a 105 group set.

I have ordered Shimano Ultegra SL-R780 flat bar 2 x 10 so I can keep the front 105 mech. My question I cant figure out or find an answer to online is can I set the front mech to only shift from the middle to outer cog.

Or should I lose the top chainring for a chainring guard and get a new lower and middle chainring in the sizes I want.

Current chain set is a Shimano FC-R565

Why not just order a rear shifter, and a 3 speed front one? Shimanos mountain bike and road bike shifters have the same pull, so they will be compatible and it will save a bit of hassle.

Failing that, you will be able to set the limit screws to incorporate the rings you want, and either take off the outer one and replace the bolts with single depth ones. That comes with the added benefit of being able to choose new colours for them

During my homework you can't use the 105 front mech with a x3 shifter, that is why I stuck with a x2 as I never use the bottom ring.

I'm confused by your question, you say you have a FC-R565 chainset which is a compact double 50/34T and you say you have purchased a 2 x 10 flat bar shifter, then go no to say about loosing the outer ring for a chainguard and getting new lower ratio lower and middle ring. Is it a triple chainset, in which case is it a FC-553 chainset 50/39/30T?

I am so embarrassed right now :oops:

It's my MTB that is triple, I even just went and double checked and counted the chain rings lol
