fsa gossamer PF30 problem.
Hello every body.
I'm a young (newbee) rider from france ( My english isn't as well as yours, so sometimes it can be hard to understand me. In this case just tell me if i need to re-explain something).
My problem is about the crank of my bike.
The boardman team is a good bike to start into road cycling. It's my first road bike, and i really like it but recently I get a trouble with his crank set.
I didn't ride a lot with for medical reasons. In 6 months I rode less then 1000km.
Today a really noisy sound get from the crank of the bike.
A fsa gossamer get in PF30 bottom bracket.
On severals forums i rode about a lot of this kind problem. People said PF30 bottom bracket is bad as hell and a big amount of them passed to another bracket system.
They complain about the same sound ( cracking when you are pedaling). Apparently the one good solution is to change the bottom bracket, and the crank.
Or simply buy another PF30 kit, and just replace it with the old one.
Honestly i rather prefer to change the bottom bracket, and get a new 105 shimano crank because my kit is based on 105 component. Also, it's a better solution for future in case if I buy a new frame.
But can I do this kind of transformation on my bike? I rode that PF30 isn't compatible with shimano crank.
So need I to buy a converter to do this?
Is it against specified to put a converter on PF30 and get a shimano finitions?

Apparently i can buy a converter for shimano bottom bracket.
Install the Hollowtech II.
And then install the 105.
But is it good to do this on PF30 ?0 -
Yes, there are a few converter solutions .. one like this .. a full conversion
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pra ... m-ec049752
as you can get heavy duty shims that still use the pf bearings.
As yours are 'clicking' that is a classic sign of a failed bearing.
PF30 and BB30 do need a bit more attention... water ingress into the bb area can damage bearings.. regardless of what system you are using. A lot of people ignore the fact that a lot of water can get into the bb from the seatpost for example.
How to really upset people on a forum... say
you can get a bb30 to run quietly and efficiently ...0 -
In evidence I need to change the bearings of the bottom bracket.
Since I ride, I never been disappointed of the PF30 system. Of course my skills aren't high, but the variety of my trainings proves me the resistance of this bike.
It's true my cleaning methods aren't conventional because I don't have in my possession a washing/repairing stand. In this case the probability that some water stuck in the frame is very high (my seat post is cracked, and some water can fill in the frame, it's sure).
So, I can just change bearings and continue on PF30 system with the FSA gossamer crank. Or I can buy the convert bracket, and get a new 105 crank.
Is we should weight the pros and cons of this two solutions, which one would be the best for a long terme riding?
The cost isn't a problem because i prefer to ride on good stuff than changing it ( even if it's good) any few months.0 -
For you long term sounds best to convert it to Hollowtech.. easier/simpler re the maintenance,0

this is what you need....

then use the standard shimano BB0 -
See if the problem is elsewhere 1st.
Tighten up your saddle, cleats, pedals/bearing, tight your quick release skewers and make sure there's no play in the wheel bearings..
If you've done all that then there's plenty of solutions and adapters.
I used an fsa sleeve that you glue in with loctite (the one above), 25g and is machined really nicely.Bianchi Intenso Athena

First off remove the crank, clean the bearings, regrease and retorque.
If this doesnt fix it then look at alternative options0
