I've been out of biking since the Intense M1 graced the cover of MBUK and the days of mint sauce and I have a horrible feeling I might not have done enough homework now I'm getting back into it and decided to get some new wheels built

Arriving tomorrow I have a set of Mavic EN423 rims on Hope hubs and I've only just noticed the rims are UST as I assumed stupidly tubeless is tubeless not several different versions  , however I've already brought a set of "tubeless ready" Maxxis Minion DHR 2/DHF 27.5

Will they seal fine on UST rims with a little extra jungle juice, I'd rather get a new set of UST compatible then drill the valve out for a stans tape, or am I better off selling them and looking at a different tyre as I've read somewhere about tread spacing on the minions and heavy impact risk on a UST rim?

After doing some more homework on it, it seems tubless ready has a similar bead to the UST so it seats easier, but unlike a UST "certified" tyre it requires sealant to seal rather then it being optional as with a UST tyre?

About it, yes. In practice nearly all wheels can be run tubeless in some way or another.

In theory UST doesn't need sealant, practice isn't always the same and UST tends to a heavier tyre anyway, not using some sealant would be daft though as a puncture would mean a flat tyre and probably having to fit a tube to get you home.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Send back the DHR. DHF at both ends works much better.

DHR 2 is equal to, or perhaps a little better than, DHF from the little I've managed to ride one so far (only 5hrs in the wet so far). Slightly draggier, but slightly grippier on most surfaces also, especially when on the side-knobs. Clears mud better too from what I can tell.
