So the question is:
Will a 2300 rear derailleur work with a 105 10 speed shifter and 10 speed cassette?
I always thought that the 2300 rear derailluer was 8 speed and that's it...But someone is trying to tell me that you can match a 2300 rear ,mech, 10 speed cassette and 10 speed shifter.....
I don;t agree
Can anyone give me a definitive answer?

Might not be the smoothest but should be fine. All rear mechs have to travel the same distance, its only the speed of the shifters and cassette that have to be a definite match.Edinburgh Revolution Curve

A 2300 RD will work fine with 105. The RD doesn't have a speed: it just responds to the input from the shifters and each click will move it the correct distance for a 10 speed cassette. I ran a 2300 RD with 10 speed shifters on my winter bike for a good while without issue.0

You can mix and match Shimano road rear derailleurs and shifters from 7 speed up to 10 speed.- - - - - - - - - -
