I bought a 2011 Hardrock Sport Disc a year or so ago, http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/hardrock-sport-disc-2011-mountain-bike-ec024137
I have updated the casette at the back and put a deore chainset on the front, looking at upgrading the fork as its gubbed, its a suntour 80mm,
I am considering rockshox gold 30 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/rockshox-30-gold-tk-solo-air-forks-9mmqr-2015/rp-prod109665 or possibly manitou http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/manitou-marvel-comp-forks-9mmqr-2015/rp-prod117113
bit new to mountain biking and haven't done many challenging tracks yet, did a bit of downhill on loose slate which was scary  would appreciate any advice, unsure as to whether to put more money in the bike or opt for a new bike,

The Rockshox fork is a good choice. I certainly wouldn't pay the extra for the Manitou.
I would also look for a Rockshox Reba. They are getting hard to find with a straight steered now though.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I would get the manitou, better damping and a lot stiffer.0

As it should be for an extra £100 but it's slightly heavier and not really £100 better.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

manitou fork is better damped and got more control over the compression than the reba. will be stiffer too.0 -
Thanks how do you rate the reliability of the manitou stuff, some people saying they have issues, or is this for cheaper forks?0

muddying the waters a little, been trying to find forks that work, in that research found out different axles, and weight has some influence,
weigh about 100kg/16Stone, is this an issue for 9mm QR axle or any of the forks on offer?, should I upgrade wheel to 15/20mm/choose another fork
Magura possibly http://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;n ... 710;lang=20 -
I would always take Rockshox over Manitou just because of the better availability of spares and they are so simple to service.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Thanks something to consider would you take that over Magura as well, is there a weight limit for shocks?0 -

If your under 18 stone you will be fine with almost any fork. I would avoid Magura.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Great thanks so Reba would be your shout for a fork AT £290 vs Gold at £175.
and 9mm QR not issue either you think,
Have seen quite a few on ebay, is it worth the risk buying forks second hand or would you buy new.0 -
All the forks in my family were bought used, that's 5 (3 Manitou, 1 Magura and 1 RS), all have been just fine, all were given a DIY service before use.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
