Changing to Compact

Need some advice please. Wife has a female specific Cinelli which she loves with Campag Mirage gear....rear. Block to 27 and chain set of 53/39.... Can I just get her some 50/34 chainrings or do I need to buy a whole new compact chainset?

    .....because the BCD (bolt centre diameter) on a standard double is normally larger than on a compact.

    Ie the holes will be in the wrong places on the 50 & 34.

    Sell the double, buy a (2nd hand) compact. Not that expensive.

    And should she get stronger, you can get 53/39 rings with the BCD of a compact to raise the gearing again.
