Hi all
Im new to this forum so this is a formal Hi to all fellow MTB peeps.
Some advice would be greatly appreciated as i am currently in the market for a new fork and was wondering what would fit my bike.
My current ride is a Halfords finest Carrera Vulcan but its not the new one thats currently in the shops as i bought mine new about 3 years ago.
They have since upgraded it from my understanding but only giving it 27" wheels as opposed to the 26" ones i have on.
So like i said any advice on what would fit would be great, looking for a rockshox fork mainly but any others that are good would be good.

Fitting the wrong size wheels is not an upgrade. Spend some cash on a pair of decent 26" wheels to get the bike handling properly and then consider a set of forks.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I expect you have a straight steerer and QR wheels rather than tapered and newer 15mm axles which most newer forks have. Your best bet would be to look at used forks, something like a recon gold or reba would be a huge improvement.0

Not sure on the axle size but yeah i have disc brakes with QR wheels, i have been looking at thishttp://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ ... prod113849
Im pretty sure mine is a 9mm the bike is a £350 halfords bike running a suntour xcm fork i wouldn't of thought it would have a 15mm set up, although i could be wrong.0 -
Not sure what the damping would be like on those, but they're still pretty heavy. Something like this might be better and should be cheaper.

An Epicon off ebay for circa £135 would be just the ticket, or as mentioned you need a fork with plain steerer and for normal (9mm) QR, that or a decent used Recon Gold or Reba as suggested, lots of options but if buying used the small amount extra for decent damping with lighter alloy stanchions and air spring is well worth paying. Also make sure you have decent tyres.
The Carrera frame will take 27" wheels (depending on which front mech you have) but it's not really an upgrade and you'd be better off with better 26" wheels.
See the link to my similar Kraken (2006 vintage) for some ideas of what you can do it a finest Carrera frame, also the Carrera HT thread.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

I think the OP is saying the new model is 650b. His 3 year old one has 26""Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Yes, I got that bit, just he used the word upgraded and that in itself I though should be fully answered.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
