Looking at upgrading current MTBs, current 20 years old!!

The world has changed somewhat and after spending the last few weeks flipping between hybrids and MTB, looks like MTB 29er could be the right option. Narrowed to the above 2 currently although Whyte 629 is better it is beyond price point.

Will be used on cycle paths, canal toe paths (pretty rough ones locally) plus forest trails - Any thoughts or other suggestions, want the right bike without overspending on unnecessary kit level?

I like the Whyte. There are other options which will be fine for what you want - Boardman hybrid, Kona Big Rove or this perhaps: http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/decade/tripster-ace

its a little below the budget i was expecting to pay and looks pretty good to me. I'm not to clued up on spec as I'm a newbie but hopefully it should be good.

OP Are you looking at 2015 and 2014 models? This is discounted if the small or medium fits.

Looks like a great deal! I would need a Medium, so this is off grid for me.

I have just looked at the Specialized Rockhopper Expert 29 too, Spec looked good, but not many positive write-ups on the forum - most saying over priced for the spec and relatively poor forks, but looked like a good option.

Looks like the Whyte is more my option, there are some others, but on this years 2015 spec the Whyte just looks a tad better than the Giant and the Specialized - even with the Air forks.

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks, good option and spec, but would want to see the bike in the flesh and in wrong part of country for Pauls.

Been to a few shops today added the Rockhopper to the list as its 20% off at the minute, but seems like that discount actually prices bike in correct value bracket so not sure its the option either!?

Not that easy in this price bracket

Thanks fella, did look at a couple of hybrids, Boardman was one, just thought wed try more trails and thought to go for MTB 29 rather than Hybrid was better option hence the Whyte. These forums really do help though when you look at the write ups.
