So on my recommendation a mate has bought and installed a shimano deore 10 sp rear mech. Could I help him sort out the indexing, yeah sure no problem said I knowing that you just fettle about with the barrel adjuster on the rear mech. But the new deore mechs don't have one - so my question is this is it a matter of fiddling with the barrel adjuster on the shifter or am I missing something?

Trusting that the mech is paired to a 10 speed cassette, chain and MTB shifter!

Use the adjuster on the shifters. Don't forget to set the limit and b screws too!
