Rear mech capacity, medium or long cage?

I'm changing to 2x10 at last of my full suspension.

I already have a 11-36 cassette and am looking at 26/38 crankset.

That gives a capacity of 37t. The medium caged mech has a 35t capacity and the long has 43t.

I already have a long caged derailleur, but if the medium is better, I'll go for that.

But I've read half of the people say go for long and rest go for medium.

What should I do do?

As the medium doesn't have the capacity, why would you use it? Use your long.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Stick with the long. The mech is already over capacity and, depending on the bike, chain growth can make it even worse.

The medium offers no real advantages except maybe being slightly lighter and a bit less likely to get hit.

Go long. Shimano mechs have a dead spot in the mech spring until about 20 percent into the throw. This means you will have poor tension on the small cogs as you'd need to run the GS mech in that spot, but the SGS can just avoid it.
