To float or not to float...

Just built a new bike from some new, some second hand parts.

Two of the second hand parts where the rotors, although brakes are shiny new Hope Tech 3 E4

Front rotor has a slight warp that is annoying so it's a opportunity to buy something new :)

So the question is, what to buy, floating or not?

No. Pointless and can cause issues with caliper clearance.

pretty sure hope floating rotors work with hope caliper

get the floating rotors -they do actual work to reduce heat on the rotor surface
  • So if I buy hope floating rotors, they can cause issues with caliper clearance on my hope brakes? Really that seems like bad move?

What rotors would people suggest? Mainly XC riding.

Missed the Hope caliper bit, so I'll restate to pointless and expensive. And they don't dissipate heat quicker.
Not that that is a major problem with XC riding (see I can read).

Rotors are rotors. Generally. Unless they are pointless floating rotors.

Shimano RT66 surprisingly good for what they are. RT76s work well with E4s

aluminum spider reduces weight and sinks heat quicker than a steel one.

however, you are right XC riding isn't likely to build up enough heat, but hope rotors with hope calipers seems resonable though.
  • There is a bike shop on the way to the sandwich shop at work (dangerous I know).

Picked up some Hope Floating at dinner, whatever they have to be better than the 10 year old avids that are warped!

    Any they look shiny :)

Maybe although the giant rivets holding the bits together might add a bit of weight, and mess with heat dissipation.

Fine if bling is your thing.

Aluminium dissipates heat faster than steel and the floating rotors are less prone to warping.
Excellent for alpine riding. Pointless for xc unless you're the sort of rider who drags the brakes all the way down a hill but then a bit of skill would be better than floating rotors.
