Cannondale SuperSix EVO with Pressfit 30 79/83MM (BBright)

Hi all,

Long story short, I was taking off my cranks to install some shims and bearing covers and noticed my '14 SuperSix EVO Hi-MOD has a Pressfit 30 L 79/83MM bottom bracket installed. Doing some research I found that's a BBright version for Cervelo only.

Surely my bike should have a Pressfit 30 R 68mm bottom bracket installed? Even in the manual it says so. What would the implications of having this 79/83MM one in there be??

Any ideas? I'm going to replace it anyway since when I felt this BB it didn't feel smooth.

Cheers!

Confusing arrangement to say the least... is this from 'new'?
    What cranks are on?
BBright allows for fatter bottom bracket area being wider.. the SuperSix doesnt fall into this category though.

BBright is an assymmetric version of BB30 designed by Cervelo - the shell is 11mm wider, offset on non-drive side but uses regular BB30 bearings. It will function as a regular BB30 in your Cannondale's 68mm BB shell.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

It's a PF30 not a BB30, but anyway (similar bearings but they are mounted in a plastic shell that is pressed into the frame, bb30 the bearings press directly into the frame). The only difference between the BBright and standard PF30 is that the tube bits between the two bearings is longer in the BBright version. My Cervelo came fitted with the standard PF30 (so the two tubes did not quite meet in the middle), I suspect that all you will end up with is a greater overlap of the two tubes. All this tube does is keeps water etc. away from the inside face of the bearings.

That's what I thought! No, I doubt from new... almost certain it'll be one of the three mechanics around the world that were hunting for a clicking sound near my BB only for the end result being a cracked frame. Cannondale were brilliant through the process and got me a new frame. One of the mechanics will have incorrectly installed the wrong BB I'm guessing.

SRAM Red. Labelled Cannondale but I believe it's all SRAM Red... (please excuse dirty gear)

Thank you Monty Dog, it's reassuring that it's probably not screwing my equipment.

Ah yes, the terminology still gets me but I do understand the relationship between Pressfit and BB30. What made it hard to figure out what was going on when I was new to this setup is that my cranks and bike have "BB30" printed on them. Thanks for your response gloomyandy and again for reassuring me that no damage has been done.

This is a great excuse for me to install a new 68mm PF30 tomorrow :)

    Update:

New PF30 68mm works like a charm. No damage in the BB shell on the frame or damage on the oversized PF30. Thanks all for your input :-)
