I've the undoubted joys of Stelvio and Mortirolo on a trip in June. My original thought was to drop out my semi-compact to a full compact and stick with my 11-28, but looking at Mortirolo I'm seriously contemplating also dropping an 11-32 on the back.

Does anyone know whether my DA 9000 is going to run with that or will I need to swap to a medium cage? I've heard that Shimano give you some tolerances over and above the manual.

Thanks

I think a 30T cog is about as big as you can go with a short cage RD, might be best to stick a medium cage 6800 or 5800 RD on it to ensure smooth gears on climbs.

    ^^Yup - what he says

If you specify the 11-32 when buying 105 5800 11 speed you are defaulted to the medium cage RD. As suggested just get a 5800 medium cage RD. They're only £24 from CRC

I run a 11-32 on 6800 with short-cage without any issues on occasions I know there'll be some big hills for my level.
