so pacenti rims generally have had a negative response one way or another, if they are not really an upgrade....what would be? are we basically talking having to spend more then £1k to make a decent upgrade on archetypes?

I've done a heck of a lot of research into these rims, and I'd say the wider concenus I've seen is that they are great rims. They're very well reviewed in the cycling press and the likes of Strada Wheels, JRA and Cycle clinic use them extensively. All of these companies have reputations for fastidious wheelbuilding excellence.
In fact JRA describe the as
"the best aluminium clincher we have built and ridden. The rims are stiffer than
any other, meaning low spoke counts are not a problem"

Also, SL23 on Dura ace will give you plenty of change out of £1k.

The 2015 SL23. Deeper centre well for easier mounting, this could be the answer to a lot of peoples concerns over going for this rim.

Yes they appear to have refined it even further, wider 20.2mm internal width for even more tyre volume as well.

I feel slightly less of a wuss when even the manufacturer highlights easier tyre mounting for the new version...
