I have the above on old Gary Fisher Aquila and it is knackered - teeth like an old fishwife - such that its derailing when on middle ring if I go on smaller than 4th cog.

What do i replace it with and from where?

Wiggle and CRC dont seem to stock much if anything in 8 speed.

From original spec sheet:

Crankset: Sugino Impel 250, 24/34/42 teeth
Bottom Bracket: Shimano BB-LP27, 113mm spindle
BB Shell Width: 73mm English
Rear Cogs: 8-speed, 11 - 30 teeth
Bianchi Infinito CV
Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Ultegra
Brompton S Type

Gary Fisher Aquila '98
Front half of a Viking Saratoga Tandem

crc have 8 speed cassettes and this chainset would fit:

or buy a more modern hollowtech II shimano bottom bracket and chainset (deore for example)
(chainset does not matter if it is 8, 9 or 10 speed)

edit: new 8 speed chain as well of course

Cheers. So any square taper triple will do the trick then.

I guess as an alternatively I could replace the chain rings, making sure I get correct BCDs, but probably work out more expensive for all 3.

I have a relatively new cassette on it, and yes chain is a given.

    Thanks

    yup, any square taper triple

normally the middle chainring is the most worn followed by the outer, inner rarely gets used enough to wear out. new chainset generally cheaper but you may find some cheap rings

yes I was just looking closely at it last night, the inner you could still create a perfect even pattern on the top of pie with, the middle is shot and the outer is pretty shoddy. New chaing rings might keep it more authentic than changing the whole crank. Its certainly not worth investing in a new bottom bracket to move to more modern kit that square taper.
