Brake cable and outer for TRP Spyre disc brakes

After coming back back from the Bespoke show in Brizzle, I now know I have an issue with my TRP Spyres on my 'crosser. Looking at a Condor Fratello disk fitted with TRP Spyres the difference in lever feel was night and day. Mine are spongy mush with the lever coming all the way back to the bar. The brake feel on the Fratello was clean and direct, with the lever only moving a short way towards the bar. The Condor guy I spoke to was convinced it was down to my not having compressionless cable.

So, trawled the net when I got home and came across these Jagwires at a decent price: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BSJWRPCK/ ... -cable-kit

Trouble is they say "MTB Only". Any reason why I couldn't use them on a CX bike with SRAM Rival shifters?

The travel has not to do with the compression less... the sponginess maybe, but even there, it could well be your outers are dirty and corroded.

Have a look on star cycles on eBay. Jag wire brake and gear outer off a roll.

I bought 4m of this and 4m of gear outer. Absolutely fine. My Spyre SLC feel very direct with it. Ditto my Hy Rd.

The brakes have been like this from day one, so wouldn't have thought it was corrosion in the outers? It was interesting that the lever feel on the Fratello disk was very similar to what I'm used to on my road bike with SRAM Force callipers, very direct and light. So a cable change is needed, if only to rule that out. Would the MTB Jagwires fit my 'crosser?

Thanks bender - I'll take a look at Start cycles as well...

It may not be. But it works perfectly well for the Spyre SLC ;)

Again... The travel can be adjusted in mechanical callipers and has nothing to do with the cable... sponginess is a different problem

Having set up spyres with standard cable outers and jagwires compressionless cable outer i prefer the later so much i have it on mine. Travel is sorted out differently though Through proper set up.

Useful point about using compressionless outer but I'm intrigued by what proper set up means in this instance? Could you elaborate? One thing I've noticed is that TRP Spyres apparently now come with a metal "shroud" that goes over the outer and deals with the bend on the bars as the cable comes out of the brake hoods. Although mine were the version issued after the recall, they don't have the shroud - should I contact TRP and try and get some?
