The rear derailleur hanger on my bike snapped yesterday and as a result two chain links are twisted, if i remove both links and replace one with a speed link will the gears work okay with a link short?

Depends on how long it was before it happened.

Plug your numbers into the calculator below

Will give you an idea if your shortened chain will still be acceptable

if not and chain is still good then buy a new chain - size it accordingly and then use the spare links to lengthen the chain. Perfectly fine to have two quick links in a chain.

Should work fine unless the chain was previously sized to be at minimum length.
Even then is should be fine except perhaps for big front / big rear combination.
