Connecting a Garmin Edge 200 to an Android phone

Has anyone successfully connected a Edge 200 to a Android phone to upload rides to Strava? I read that it's possible by using a mini to micro USB OTG cable and using the manual upload on the Strava website. I'm trying to upload this morning's ride. When I plug the cable in to both devices the phone says "USB Connector Connected" but it doesn't seem to recognise the Garmin. Any solutions to this? My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4.

I have used my S4 to connect my edge 800 and that worked out OK.
I use es file explorer as my file manager on the phone as it has much more features than the inbuilt one and allows me to browse the garmin associated micro sd card.

Here is a screenshot using the inbuilt file manager

Thanks for that, downloaded the app but the phone is still not recognising the Garmin. At least that rules the phone out as the problem, so it's either a faulty cable or the 200 just can't connect to a phone. I don't think the 200 has a SD card, so that might be the problem.0

May be a daft question, but why not just connect the Garmin to your PC and upload directly to Strava? You can store several rides on the 200 unit, so you're not going to lose data even if you don't have access to a PC in between rides.0

I do not believe the 200 can be connected to your phone and auto upload to Strava or the likes but i stand to be corrected.0

So I can upload my morning ride when I get into work. USB ports on my work PC are disabled. Plus it would be handy when I'm away in Spain in the summer. Doesn't look like it's possible though, thanks for the replies.0 -

Try using Sportablet's Uploader app for mobiles - http://www.sportablet.com/file-based-ga ... vices.html
I used this for connecting my Edge 800 to my Sony Xperia a couple of years ago when on my JOGLE. It is supposed to work with the Edge 200 and I'm sure that the Galaxy S4 will be compatible too.0 -
A chap in my club seemed to have a similar issue a few weeks back when we we're in mallorca, he found that he had to fully charge his garmin and then connect it to the device. The path of my life is strewn with cowpats from the devil's own satanic herd.0

Have you got Garmin Connect installed on the phone? Install the app then connect the OTG cable etc. I synced my Vivofit via bluetooth when I was in Barcelona last December then uploaded on the free hotel wifi.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
You will never get GarminConnect App to upload directly from a Garmin device connected via OTG cable without some faffing.
You need to get file system access (as told by the second poster in the thread) - the key here is that most file browsing dialogues in Android apps will not show .FIT files - the workaround is to use something like TotalCommander or ESFileExplorer to be able to browse for and see the file and then you can use something like the Sportablet Uploader to upload to GarminConnect (or email the .FIT file to the Strava upload email address - whichever is your ultimate aim)0 -

Why would you need TotalCommander or ESFileExplorer if you use Sportablet Uploader? The Uploader does it all without needing any workaround.0 -
TotalCommander and/or ESFileExplorer will prove that you can see the relevant files - last time I tried Sportablet Uploader it wasn't terribly friendly on that front... especially not on a phone.0

Never had a problem with mine, except when I was sorting out the Xperia - Forerunner via Ant+. Edge 800 and Xperia just worked.0

I've tried ESFileExploror and Sportablet, but the phone still can't see the Garmin. It seems to charge the Garmin when connected, but not provide a data connection. I think the cable is the problem.0

Have you tried the cable with a regular boring USB memory stick? That should mount ok too.0
