Well after being told we were having KFC tonight I was looking forward to the gravy the most.
KFC didn't materialize so had some chicken to use, so thought I would do my own. Looked at the online copy versions and I didn't have the necessary ingredients. so improvised.
4TBS butter melted 5TBS flour added constantly whisking. 1 veg stock cube and 1 chicken stock cube to 500ml water. Abit of fresh garlic, white pepper, salt, rosemary and thyme. Continuously stirring.
WOW, it's not the same taste but just as indulging, is anyone else a secret lover of the gravy with there own take on it?
Or what is your own take on your favorite indulgence?

Why not start this in the CC? - then we can tell you.0

I'd rather not know, I can imagine it being some form of cringe worthy type of food manufacturing process that would put me off ever having it again.0

Stopped going when I found out there was no choice but to have Halal
What difference does it make if some words are spoken when the animal is killed?0 -
KFC sell the cheapest, lowest quality food they can get away with and are always trying new ways to cut production costs. Much the same as other similar fast food joints. Its nasty stuff but tastes good if you are starving.0

KFC Gravy is proper crap, I used to repair the ovens in the stores so got to find out how it's actually made, put it this way they certainly have recycling well sorted.0

Not sure about the Halal quote and boycotting a company that uses Halal meat. My understanding is the animal is blessed before being slaughtered. Also if you stun an animal through electric shock then slaughter the animal I would say this places more stress on the animal. How would you know the animal has been shocked enough to put it in to a comatose state before slaughter.
Yep was expecting some kind of "upcycling" to be going on, but it is no different to other fast food chains or even supermarkets.
Any way KFC night is now a DIY KFC night.0 -

How can you test 100% that an animal is "probably unconscious"?0 -

Yes they can prove the equipment works to a "certified standard" but that is only the equipment.
So how do you prove an animal to be "stunned or unconscious" with 100% reliability?
So back to my original comment that I disagreed with about Halal meat. How is the method of slaughter different?0 -
I would suggest that if the animal doesn't react when you cut it's throat you can be pretty sure it's unconscious. Halal requires the animal to be physically restrained while it's throat is cut. The animals thrash around and vocalize until they pass out from blood loss. It's very confronting to watch. I think if my throat was about to be cut I would give the stunner a go as I think I would prefer to be unaware of the approaching knife.
Ok, the animal maybe paralysed from being stunned, but it may still be fully aware of what is happening.
If the throat is slit, I know it is a gruesome way, but the kicking and vocal noises would be nerves reacting.
So how could you prove either way is a more humane way?
I disagreed with a comment about bypassing halal meat. But the animal would be given it's last rights so to speak. I think the fact that you acknowledge the animal about to be slaughtered abit better than stunning it then sticking it on a hook from the rear and then slitting it's throat.0 -
Not going to argue the rights and wrongs of it all.
The way the stunning regulated is that the guns have to administer a certain current output by law and is certain to render the animal unconscious and they are inspected on a regular basis to insure they comply.
Nearly all slaughter houses run above the setting to make sure they are fully legal and to 100% make sure the animal doesn't suffer.
The problem with Halal meats suppliers/producers/purchasers is they don't want it stunned at all but have no choice as the law is very clear, so insist/try/put pressure on to have the guns right at the lowest setting possible and also under. There are a few slaughter houses I know of breach the law so they can keep customers that require Halal meat.0 -
Instantly thought of this when I saw this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wz0KitxtDQ0

What was wrong with the ovens?
Kfc have ovens? What's wrong with this country, things were so much better when they were deep fried!
By the way, hello, don't know any of you guys, been away from these forums a while, but I'll be sticking my oar in occasionally0
