Stripped thread in road shoes

I somehow managed to strip the thread in one of the cleat bolt fixings on my winter shoes (SH-R122). I have discovered that, although Shimano has a part number for the plate (or cleat nut) which is located in the sole of the shoe, you can't actually buy them.
Pearl Izumi sells one, which looks to be identical, but you can't buy them in the UK. However they are available in the US. I have found a shop which will post one over to me, but it will cost £20 incl. shipping.
Before I order one, does anyone have any experience of this and/or have a dead pair of shoes they are willing to donate (for a small fee of course) so I can remove the plate to save my shoes?

I found a German company that sell the Shimano Cleat Plate/Nut on Amazon...

Whilst it is still £15 icl. postage, it is still cheaper than getting it sent over than the states or buying another pair of used shoes offov Ebay.
PS> thanks for the tip Frisbee!0 -
Couldn't you re-tap it to M6?0
