Hi all,

I'm starting to get into this MTB business!

I recently purchased myself a Carrera Sulcata Limited Edition 2015, and i must say i think it is a fantastic bike.

I took it to the South Downs, and also Moores Valley over the Easter weekend as both have fantastic trails. Everything seems to be working as it should, although how should i know, i'm here to learn!

I just wanted to say hello, and see if we have any others from Bournemouth or other surrounding areas.

Cheers,

Al

  • Very nice, always been a fan of Carrera's and also a fan of bigger wheels. (call me lazy ha)

Enjoy it however, the picture you have, the bike is far to clean! Needs to be at least 10 times more mud to alloy ratio!!

    Hello and welcome,

Is that the way that Halfords handed the bike over to you, the Brake levers and gear shifters, horizontal to the handle bars? If so you might want to rotate them down into a more natural operating position, depending on what type of riding you do.

    Enjoy your bike.

Indeed, some tool in Halfords put bike together. I have since adjusted the angle of the gear shifters and brake levers, it now feels so much nicer to ride.

Well the 'tool' in Halfords had need to touch the angles as they are fitted at Merida when the bike is built.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Fair enough Rookie, i stand corrected. So Halfords staff have no involvement in building the bikes or do they just bolt certain things together?

The bike will have come in a box, with the handlebars out of the stem but the brakes and gears fitted to the bars from the factory, all they do is attach the bars and possibly the front wheel if that isn't fitted either.

Bit pointless a shop trying to set a bike up any specific way as everyone (I would anyway) will adjust things to their preference.

Per your other thread - depends on the crankset.

Moors Valley singletrack is great fun - plenty of Strava segments to keep you interested. Need to ride it outside of 'family' hours as gets very busy. Best of all is at night - a whole new dimension, plus there's trolls in the forest...

  • Just wondering how you are getting on with the Carrera Sulcata Bike? My experience has been terrible with just over a year.

1 - On 3rd Bottom Bracket (halfords for first two then change to UN55 shimano which seems better)
2 - new headset (halfords gave me wrong one at the start!)
3 - new free hub (standard one snapped during a hill climb)
    4 - shifters broke
    5 - derailer hanger snapped
    6. Bent seatpost caused by Halfords
    7 - bent rear axle
8 - now a clicking noise from the back wheel which I think are wheel bearings loose.

I have found halfords to be pretty terrible and any replacement parts are not fit for purpose and dont last too long.

I still have the bike mainly for on road stuff and have upgraded to a VITUS Sommett VRX which has had zero issues to date after 8 months.
