garmin/strava

I am trying to sort my training out on a more regular basis and want to get into the routine of recording my rides to work as well.

I know I can use my Garmin for this and just stop recording when I arrive, turn it off then start again when I leave, but if I want to do something similar with the strava app on android is this possible? I don't want to have to record two trips everyday, just want the one session overall?

Ideally would like to record all activities as one main ride at the end of the week, otherwise just one ride a day (but two activities)

Cheers

All the gear, but no idea...

Thanks, sorry what I meant was I would rather not keep taking my garmin to work and just use my mobile instead. So is there a way to record using strava/edomondo and bulk upload the activites as one ride?

Just had a play around with Edomondo and it looks like they have developed the option to merge workouts. This is exactly what I need. Hopefully can merge more than 2-3 but will test this later on.

If anyone knows if this can be done using the strava app then please let me know :-)

    thanks

You can just pause the workout in Strava, surely that will do the job.

yeah, I think that's the only way to do it. Once you click finish, it want to save it as complete. Don't really want strava running constantly on my phone as it will p!ss away the battery so will use Edomondo instead, and then my garmin on big rides.

    Thanks

It shouldn't use too much battery when paused. The other thing you could do is export the GPS data (from the "failed sync" screen) and stitch them together separately.

Personally I'd just record as 2 rides!

Why the need to overcomplicate it and make two rides into one despite an 8 hour gap between them?!

I will be doing the same ride to and from work 5-6 days a week so i would rather upload it all as one ride once a week rather than 10-12 rides.

Each to their own, but it really does seem that you are over complicating it by joining the rides. It is much simpler and less time consuming to record as two rides. As for uploading, it will take less time to upload 10 rides than it will to "stitch" them into 1.

Appreciate it would be a lot more effort IF i chose to do this using Strava, but I will be using Edomondo and from what I can see, it takes less than a minute to select the rides you have done during the week and merge them together then upload to strava, so will go with this option.

    Thanks

Even so, it still seems like a lot more effort than just uploading. Unless of course you are trying to trick Strava into thinking that you have done a longer ride/more elevation for one of the competitions :D

lol, no I've got better things to do than trick Strava (plus the elevation/distance would be exactly the same in 10 rides than 1 combined ride anyway). This is purely for better tracking purposes, so I can quickly check distance commuting and distance out of work, without having to scroll through a ridiculous amount of small everyday rides.

Doesn't Strava give you a summary of rides by day/week/month anyway?

If you really want to analyse your rides use veloviewer, like others I don't see what you're gaining by merging rides.

it's not so much analysis, just a bit clearer to view and overview. Anyway, it's just personal preference, so no dramas. Will try it this way and in the unlikely event that it really bugs me I will upload each events daily.

You need to do what works for you, but have a look at Strava's training log, that might give you the view you're after.

If you have a Edge 510 (or higher) then via the Garmin Connect app (linked via Bluetooth) it will automatically upload your ride to Garmin and Strava (if sync'd) as soon as you hit stop on the device - pretty good feature (you will need to manually change the title of the ride if you wanted to)

Another feature I noticed today, I added a particular 'segment' as a favourite on Garmin Connect, the Edge 510 remembered the segment and basically gave me a count down before I as about to start it and then showed me my best time vs my current time (and how many seconds I was ahead/behind) - I thought it was pretty cool, defo one for the 'Silly Strava Racers' :-)
